The Eyes of Me

The Eyes of Me offers an up-close look at four Texan teens who have lost their sight; following their journey in navigating a high school, relationships, independence, and the pursuit of their dreams over the course of one dynamic year. From the determination of a blind athlete striving to compete on equal terms with her peers, to the artistic aspirations of a student who dreams of making a living as a photographer, The Eyes of Me showcases the limitless potential of individuals who are often overlooked by mainstream society.

Through candid interviews and rotoscope animation, Maitland’s The Eyes of Me challenges preconceived notions of disability. Exploring themes of resilience and identity, Maitland spotlights what it means to be “seen”  through an unfiltered glimpse into the lives of those living with visual impairment and – ultimately – a more inclusive understanding of the human spirit and experience.
